Why User-Friendly APIs Matter: Gordon Cooke Shares His Expertise on Martalks

Gordon Cooke discusses user-friendly APIs, on the Martalks Podcast

Our CTO & Co-Founder Gordon Cooke recently appeared on the Martalks podcast. He discusses how User-Friendly APIs are crucial to enabling brands to take advantage of composable solutions.

In the podcast, Gordon and Darrell Rosenstein, Managing Partner of Rosenstein Group, discussed how some brands can find the task of managing multiple interconnected microservices prohibitive. In such a market, a key differentiator for a composable solution vendor is to simplify this for the client as much as possible.

Part of UpStart Commerce’s answer to this is the NoChannel Portal™. This portal serves as a central management tool for the various APIs a retailer houses in their stack.

Gordon explains:

“Providing the APIs to handle the management functions that you need on any ecommerce platform – adding products, updating pricing, modifying inventory – is one thing. But then to expect the customer to, on top of migrating their frontend site, also build their own management portal or integrate with their set of APIs? It’s just not fair to the customer. It’s not taking care of them.”

To date, the complexity of managing API-first architectures has created a lot of work for digital agencies. This trend will continue as brands increasingly undergo digital transformation. As a result, platform vendors should also consider APIs as tools that are intended for human collaboration, rather than simply technical interoperability.
